can the fuji 60/2.4 lens be upgraded/modernized?
newer & better & faster af ?
i like the size of the 60, i really like the focal length and it makes a great team with the 27mm.
my only complaint is the searching it does looking for correct focus.
 
What are your shutter release settings for “S” and “C”?

I've shot moving people in the "daytime" using the XF 60mm f2.4 lens with the X-pro2 in auto-focus without any issues.

Of course it can... but really the question is will Fuji ever do it?

I've been using one lately... on the X-E3, X-H1, and the X-Pro2... and I find it to be really decent these days on these bodies. Of course if I do a macro shot and then focus to 30 feet...it takes some time. If not, it is acceptable to me.
 
mine goes from quickly snapping into focus to hunting...

just checked the software version and it looks like it's not been upgraded. will check on which version i have compared to fuji site.

When I had the problem you describe with my Fujinon XF 56mm f1.2 R lens I did some reading in the camera manual and watched some YouTube videos and then changed my AF-S setting to Focus and my AF-C setting to Release; the problem was solved. However, if the firmware update solves your problem that's great!

Per the manual:
RELEASE/FOCUS PRIORITY
Choose how the camera focuses in focus mode AF-S or AF-C

Option - Description
RELEASE - Shutter response is prioritized over focus. Pictures can be taken when the camera is not in focus.
FOCUS - Focus is prioritized over shutter response. Pictures can be only taken when the camera is in focus.

I have nothing to offer, but I find it really interesting that Fuji has made it possible to upgrade the firmware on lenses in such a way that it actually matters. That's great, I wish Canon would start doing that. My aging 70-300 EF L could really use a little re-imagining on how it handles stabilization.

FUJIFILM designed the 60mm lens as a close up lens. While it is technically not a macro lens, FUJIFILM markets it as the "FUJINON LENS XF60mmF2.4 R Macro".

This lens design uses a slow, AF motor technology and gearing optimized for close up photography. This means will have AF issues when used as a medium telephoto lens. I guess tweaking AF menu parameters should minimize hunting. But you are still fighting AF motor technology designed for precise focusing of still objects close to the lens.

The 50/2 XF lens is small, and light while the 56/1.2 is large and heavy. I owned the latter and sold it for the former. Both have competent AF performance (hunting is rare and the AF success rate is high) with newer X-Series bodies. If I was still doing candid shots at wedding receptions and events, I would have kept the 56/1.2. It excelled in these situations. But I'm not and the 50/2 is better suited for documentary work I'm interested in now.
 
I’ve used the 60mm in the streets and with all the latest firmware updates and on the 24mp or newer bodies, it really isn’t bad... as long as you don’t try to make a macro photo followed by a far away shot. It’s clunky but not horribly slow anymore. It really has come along way since 2012.
 
went out earlier with the newly set up 60 and i believe there is an overall improvement...not sure which action might be more pivotal but i can live with that.
 
I imagine that the performance would be much more predictable on the X-Pro3 and X-T4 since those bodies have an AF range limiter.
 
I always used a single focus point and the smallest. Kept it in the center and got focus and then recomposed, even with the old XP1 it got things pretty regular. Low light of course would hamper it. I never used it with the X E3, someone bought it from me......
