I have an early black 2nd version of the 50 Summilux that was sent in to Sherry Krauter for diaphragm blade cleaning and tightening of the aperture ring having some forward-backward play. The lens came back nicely repaired with these issues corrected, the mechanism cleaned and lubricated, but now the aperture ring stiffens/binds a little bit between f/2.4 through f/1.4. Sherry says this is due to the aperture detent set-up and the age of the lens. It can be improved with adding back a little forward-backward play of the aperture ring which I told her to do. Anyone owning this lens have a similar experience with the lens' aperture action?

Not exactly the same Alan, but I have this lens serial nr 2504xxx, and it developed problems with the aperture ring a few months after I bought it. As I recall my problem was that the aperture ring went beyond 1.4 then didn't register the aperture correctly when you turned it back. I sent mine to DAG for a full CLA and it came back fine. No variation or dampening effect through the aperture range.
