Does anyone have experience on using a 90mm lens on your R-D1?
Which viewfinder do you used with the R-D1?
Any suggestions?
Thank you very much.

Not a 90mm but an 85mm.
I have a 135mm external VF but every time I use it, I end up taking it off. It's not accurate enough and aiming is difficult.
I find that I rather use the rf patch and extend it in my mind to 1 length to left and right side and 1 height to up and down side. That way I get the best results.

For a 90mm lens I tend to 'guess' the composition from imagining frame lines half as wide as those of the 50mm framelines. I find the 135 external viewfinder works more reliably with the 75mm lens.

I too used the Leica 135mm VF with the 90mm and found that regardless of how I adjusted the outer ring (for distance) I still couldn't get it to exactly match FOV of the lens. Most of the time I just used the R-D1's VF to center what I wanted to shoot and eventually you can get fairly accurate.

I've had problems framing with th e 90. I don't have a finder, because I mostly shoot wide open at moving people and I wouldn't have time to use a finder. Framelines would be wonderful!!!! I've not yet found a reliable method for framing, but I mostly get what I want in the photo.
I find that I shoot too high most of the time and (for example) cut off people's feet... so I try to imagine framelines in the upper portion of the 50mm lines which makes me move the camera down a little.
I like the idea of RML (using the focussing patch).. I'll try that.
There has been an earlier thread on creating new framelines in the R-D1:
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5384. I wonder what market there would be for "improved" frameline masks with the 75mm and 90mm framelines?
My camera approaches the end of its warranty soon ... once warranty expires I probably would be happy to let someone technical "update" the framelines for me.
Or maybe Epson would consider offering a service of putting in new frameline masks? It would be a way to continue extracting money from its customers, and we would willingly pay!!!

I set the frameline to 50mm and "picture" my 90mm frame to be half way beetween the patch and the 50mm framelines. It has been quite accurate for me.
