Question re: M mount

Little help needed on assessing camera fitness: is it normal for a lens to have a bit of side-to-side play once mounted in the M-bayonet? I don't mean anything like sloppy movement, just a very slight bit of rotational wiggle present after the lens firmly clicks into place.

I realize there has to be a certain amount of mount variation among lenses, and maybe also among the cameras' bayonet mount. Just wondering whether anyone has noticed this on their M-bodies, particularly on the MP.

Are you finding some radial movement? This can result from a lens with a slightly oversize locking slot, or a body with an undersize locking catch. Or a combination of both! I have an M2 which shows that characteristic with just one of my older lenses but it makes absolutely no difference to the results on film.

yes, it's just a very small amount of radial movement. it does vary with the specific lens mounted, some are quite tight, others show the movement.

I wouldn't worry about it too much - do you have an MP and/or older camera(s)?

Never had an MP, but my M2 shows a bit of this and my M3 also did. On the M2 it's a slight bother because the 90mm frame lines become faint when the lens is focussed to closest distance.

Yup. Seen it before. Not worth worrying about, for the reasons the others have given.
