Question re: Nikon L35AF P&S

Hi Folks,

I just scored a couple of classic film P&S cameras, a Nikon L35AF and a Olympus XA2 w/A11 flash. The XA2 is in great shape, and everything seems to work fine on it. However, the L35AF is well used, and I'm sure has been dropped at least once in its life. My problem is that the flash appears to be dead. Not having the manual, I was wondering if I need to do anything to turn on the flash? Also, what is the purpose of the lever on the side of the lens? Is it the backlighting compensation lever? What about the lever on the top front of the camera under the shutter release? Is that the self timer? The lens glass on the Nikon looks clean, so even if the flash is inoperative, if the rest of it works, I'll just use it only in daylight, outdoor situations. Any other tips from users of either camera would be greatly appreciated 🙂.

From the manual " If your subject is too dark for normal shooting, the flash automatically pops up when the shutter release button is depressed halfway".

So assuming your batteries are good and the camera is turned on it should pop up on it's own.

Yes, the switch on the side of the lens is for backlight compensation.

And yes, that is the self timer just below the shutter button.

This was Nikon's first auto focus camera and it's built like a brick.

Thanks for the answers. The flash on my L35AF seems to be stuck or glued in the down position. Hmmm...

You're welcome. I'd send you the owners manual but I don't have a scanner. Saw a manual for it on eBay though.

Also, the filter size is 46mm in case you wanted to know.
