Question regarding strange e-bay stuff

Pherdinand said:
I followed (ok, more than followed) the auction on that mamiya 6 stuff yesterday...
Now i got an e-mail from the owner (at least pretending to be the owner) (see below)

I have no experience with such stuff. What do you think about it?
Details: the stuff had a BIN of almost 2000$ and a reserve that was not met by the highest bid. (Not mine...)

E-mail follows:

Hello,

I have begin this second chance offer because the winner of my auction didn't respond to my email. You can buy now the item which you placed a bid for US $616.66 on May-15-06 03:43:10 PDT is now available for purchase: Mamiya 6MF Film Camera Super clean MInt (7xxxxxxxx1) . The deal will go strictly according to eBay rules and policy regarding to this second chance offer-to start the official transaction .
If you are interested i wait your email.

Thanks !

Pherdi,

What's in the first line of the internet header?
It should be Return-Path: <SecondChanceOffer@ebay.com>

RJ,
It's not. It is a plain and simple text message in form of an e-mail from a free email provider.
Has NOTHING to do with the e-bay messaging service.
Also has no links in it at all.
Just a guy trying his luck, i guess!

thanks for your oppinions and tips, guys.

Of course if stg sounds too good to be true then probably it's not true heh?🙂

If it is a genuine second chance offer, it will appear on your ebay page when you log in. If it doesn't it is not a genuine offer and the guy could be fishing for you details or looking for a deal outside of eBay. If this is the case, I would walk away. If it is there and you like the deal, then go for it.

Kim

THIS IS SO TRUE...I just got a second chance offer through my normal email and the message was also in my Ebay Summary.
Sometimes they will ask you to "click on a link" and "sign-in"...Don't do this either...😎
