question to the Hassie community

I just got a "new" hassie 500c back from a cla.
Everything looks nice and pretty, but something bugs me (please bear in mind that I am completely new to hassie):

I am used to try to depress shutter the gentler I can.
When I do that with the hassie, I get the mirror up, but it takes another mm or so of pushing the release to get the picture. So, If I'm really carefull, I can easily be stuck with no view, but no picture :bang:

Is it normal?
Should I adapt? or does it need a tuning?

I don't think that's normal. Let me go get mine and check it, been a while since I've shot with mine and I usually use it on a tripod with a cable release.

DoubleNegative, he's saying if he pushed the button slow, the mirror raises but the shutter does not fire unless he then pushed in more. I just got mine out and try as i might, I could not get it to do that. No matter how slow I push in the shutter release, the mirror raising always is immediately followed by the shutter firing. The OP needs to send his camera back to the shop for a re-do on the CLA.

Mine is a 500C/M (and an 80mm C T*) so there maybe some differences, but as Chris said, I can't reproduce the issue no matter how slow I squeeze the release button.

That's what I feared...
What a headache, it's the second time I'll have to sent the camera after the CLA. I've been charged about 300$ without any prior notice (the CLA was supposed to be 150$. the surprise where the parts 😱) and I already sent it back because the light traps were not closing as they should...

And that is from a "Hasselblad trained tech"

for that money, I could have bought a clean CM from KEH...

I think you're going in the right direction. Buy from KEH next time, especially on older gear. I had a similar experience w/ a "repairman" and now I just stick to folders because I can fix them myself. If my TLR breaks it gets sold as is and I will buy another one. Never again will I send a camera out to be repaired.

It don't believe people are that cynical.

It's just a total lack of sensibility about what is worthy and what isn't to his customers.

David Odess is supposed to be the best for Hasselblad. He fixed my 150mm Sonnar when a spring in it broke last year. He wasn't cheap, it cost me $200, but he did a good job and he did it pretty fast.

I have bought a 50 Distagon lens from David Odess, primarily for his reputation for doing good work and the fact that he has CLA'd all the items he sells second-hand. The lens is working perfectly and the transaction went smoothly. I expect to buy one of his CLA'd 500c/m bodies at some stage in the future.

David Odess is a good man. I can recommend him w/o doubt. I have had some troubles with a few hassy I had in the past. He answered my email promptly and thoroughly. His work is top notch.

If you paid specifically for a CLA, why can't you just send it back to that technician to have him fix this problem, without paying more money? This issue should be covered, no? When was the CLA?

If you just don't trust this person, you might want to contact Hasselblad itself to see if your camera qualifies for their Check to Spec program. I think it includes a body, one mag, a lens and a prism. I've used them twice, for 203FEs - I don't remember the price, but perhaps it's less for a mechanical camera versus the electronic models.
