I've never had any problems getting a claim paid by Fedex. That's been an extremely rare event, as it is, over 15+ years; but usually they would have a check in my hands in a day or two. I did have some claims with UPS a few years back, and they were a pain in-the-you-know-what. No recent claims so I have no idea if that has improved or not.

I filed a claim on damaged goods from the USPS. It boils down to the individual person that works the claim. In short, they can always find a way in order not to pay, or at least not to pay the full insured amount. Likewise, FedEx is the same way. You can really only make a reasonable effort to prevent loss or damage. For me, I have a “personal article” insurance policy on each specific high-ticket item I own. I use FedEx as my preferred on-line “real time” tracking and reliability over 25-years.
BTW: I use FedEx Ground a lot and the default is “no signature” required although you can easily mark or request signature required in Item-4 of the Airbill.
