While enjoying my new/old XP1 with lenses of 28, 35 and 60mm, I am thinking I would appreciate the wider field of view of the 14mm.

Can those of you actually using the 14mm tell me if the ovf in the magnified view can handle the 14's field of view? Or do you have to jiggle the lever to minimize it? I much prefer the ovf and only use the evf occassionally with the 60. (I don't like the dim view in sun light outdoors.)

with the ovf in the magnified view, the framelines go out to the corners of the frame and there are arrows in side the corners...indicating that there is more image area than frame available.
i use the evf with the 14 all of the time.

Thanks for the input. Hmmm, interesting. You didn't say how you used it, though, with EVF, OVF small or OVF large. I'll probably order it and just find out for myself.

I use the OVF almost exclusively on my X-Pro1, also with the 14mm, in normal view. No scientific test, but the coverage in normal view is approx 100%. very usable, naturally with a large portion of the lower right corner blocked by the lens. Don't like the EVF and only use it if I can't avoid it.
Hope the X-Pro2 will do better in that respect.

regards,

Frans

I guess I can soon answer my own questions. I (gulp) ordered one today from B&H. You can get them cheaper from Hong Cong or elsewhere in the Far East, but I don't have an adventurous inclination where expensive lenses are concerned!

The OVF/EVF decision is really no different than with any of the lenses with one exception. You can't see outside the frame with the 14/2.8. Otherwise, use it as you use your other lenses.

I will tell you this. The 14/2.8 is an excellent piece of glass. The performance is amazing.

Looking forward to it. The little 18 is pretty good but it'll probably be sold. To have them both is a luxury for me.

i think about selling the 18 occasionally, but i like it's small size and i don't always want to go as wide as the 14...but it is a luxury.

when the 27 comes out i plan on using it and the 14 as my 2 lens kit...so things might change then.

I think I'll stop aquiring and use the 14, 35 and 60. Of course, the 27 could be a temptation since Fuji seems incapable of making a bad lens these days. What an embarrassment of riches we have!

Fifty years ago I had an M3 and a 50 Summicron and was perfectly content.
