Questions to owners of GF2 and Nex

Camera arrived today

Camera arrived today

Received the GF2 with the Adobe software today.

Initial impressions (from playing around inside) are:

ISO: The high ISO performance significantly poorer than NEX-3. Have not made any formal comparison but the GF2 is not very good at ISO 800. I was slowly starting to dream of other m4/3 lenses (14-42 X, 20mm f:1.7, Voigtländer 0.95), but I am not quite sure the sensor is up to it.

AF: The AF system is very impressive – find it hard to believe (but do) that the GF3 is even faster. Coupled with AF-assist it is able to lock on in total darkness. This fulfils my hopes 100%.

MENU: The menu system is a bit messy, but nothing like the maze like structure of the Sony’s menu ;)

HANDLING: The touch screen is absolutely wonderful! And that is with fingers only – no stylus (supplied) involved. Cannot quite understand why Kai Wong [whom I admire a lot] of youtube fame found it so mediocre. So far it seems very responsive and having access to ten important settings through the screen with five additional settings on the four way controller and fn button makes the GF2 a handling dream.

SCREEN: That said the higher resolution of the NEX is sorely missed.

OTHER: The optical viewfinder from my GRD matches the field of view fairly well

Still early days, but so far positive.

For anybody interested the camera + 14mm lens + Adobe software is still available from SRS Microsystems Ltd on ebay uk. Never bought from them before, but it arrived in three days (since I bought it on Sunday) and the software installed no problem.

Will update later.

Cheers,
Xpanded
