Hello all.

I recently purchased a Leica M6 TTL on eBay. It arrived today, and after playing around with it for a bit, I find myself with a couple questions (I have never used a Leica before).

Please forgive me if these questions have obvious answers and I sound stupid for asking them:

Question 1: When using fast shutter speeds, I hear only a click. However, when using slower speeds (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, etc) the shutter sounds different and there is a short mechanical "buzz" sound. Is this normal?

Question 2:
When the M6 TTL is switched to the "off" position with the shutter cocked, the shutter can still be triggered.... So, just out of curiosity--if anyone knows--what shutter speed is being used when the shutter speed dial is set to "off"?

Thanks. 🙂

The sound is perfectly normal, as long as the Buzz is a constant tone.
(indicating a constant speed).
You may also hear some clicking/ticking sounds after the second curtain.

On the second question: no clue either. If you are willing to spend a roll of film you can try it out (shoot at constant light one picture in off and then using a range of time settings)

1) Not only is the sound normal it is much beloved. You should learn to love it, too.

2) Isn't the sutter on whatever speed it is set to? Turning the camera off just turns off the meter. The shutter is still mechanical.

Off is a setting on the shutter speed dial, so Roger is remembering correctly, the shutter will fire as if on B setting.
