Earl - skip the 50/1.2; you need the 85/2. 🙂

Unrelated, but lately I've been increasingly disappointed with web rendering of photos. Sharpness normally suffers most, and the result for me us sometimes ennui that is undeserved. That's not the case here; I'm just observing.
 
Someone here got a 50 1.2 recently for around $350.00 from memory which is a really good deal!

The 85mm Zuiko is not super sharp at f2 which is one of the good things about it IMO ... great portrait lens. Mine exhibits no more flare than my Summicron when shooting into lights which surprised me because it has quite a few cleaning marks on the front element.

Earl ... ignore Chris's attempts to save your money! You NEED the 1.2 as well! 😛
 
Damn, I really want the 85/2
I have the 24/2 and 28/2 which pretty much cost me nothing, but the one i really want is the 85mm. I think i'll really like that focal length.
Want to try and not think about the 50/1.2 though haha.

Ok... we have exposed a couple of 21/2 users. Now anyone here have a white OM? I played with one when I was looking to move the OM system back in the '80's. I think it would have been a OM-3T or OM-4Ti. Even had a white motor-drive to go with it from memory.

The white OM with the white motor-drive and the white Zuiko 250mm f2.0 was the coolest set-up. Anyone here admit to having and using any of the big three. The 180/2, 250/2 and 350/2.8 were serious glass by any standards.

What about the 55mm f1.2 ? I heard the 50mm was better but I found the 55mm at a good price. Overall I am very happy with it. I have also used it on the Canon 300D (sacrilege!) also with very good results. But mainly I wanted an ultra fast combo of ilford 3200 and f1.2 to photograph my daughters birth.

I also have the 85mm which is sweet for portraits and the 50mm f3.5 macro which is the sharpest of the lot and a very good lens overall.
Recently I got the 135mm f.2.8. It is good but I don't use that length much (sigh).
 
Y'all can blather about 50/1.2 all night long, but the 35/2 is the real thing for a 35mm focal length nut like me ...

Sharp, absolutely, creamy bokeh, of course, flare control, oh yes, and more importantly, you get the background *and* the subject 😉
 
OM-2, 2N have off switch. 2N especially is very reliable. OM-2S, 3, 3Ti, 4, 4T, 4Ti all have low level battery drain. T versions have lowest drain. Setting to red B/60 does not turn off the drain. Longest battery life will be with silver oxide 357 cells. John, www.zuiko.com
 
One thing that really impresses me about the OM-2N now is the ability to take the shot and get the exposure right even if you forget to turn the camera on ... I've done this constantly and always look for the dud exposure on the roll and wondered why I couldn't seem to find it? Even thought the camera is effectively off it has the ability to use AE down to around 1/30 sec if you press the shutter without remembering to flip the switch to your chosen auto ar manual setting before shooting.

Of course no such problem with the OM-1! 😛

edit ...Of course this was mentioned earlier in the thread but this damned thread has been around so long that I forgot ... but I've heard that OM owners are as prone to repetitive babble about their cameras as the Leica fan boys/girls are! 😛
