Quick Question: Neopan 1600 Shot @ 800 - Dev time @ ? ? ? ?

Folks,

I'm curious, I shot Neopan 1600 @ 800 and I wonder what time I should use for development.. 1600 (more contrast) or 800 ?? It was indoor, flat lighting... I'm apt to think 1600 but I wanna hear your thoughts on this 🙂

I don't use Xtol, but an important factor is if you metered light with an incident meter or not. And if you metered it with in camera meter, it's important to know if you metered a middle gray scene always, or if you used the scenes' metering directly. The last option would mean you shot at lots of different ISO's. Another factor is if white walls were present in your scenes... With P1600 I use Rodinal only...

Neopan 1600 is best shot at E.I. of 640 - 800. At 1600 you will lose all detail in the shadows and dark areas. I've gotten good results at an E.I. of 800 in Xtol 1:1, 7 minutes at 68 degrees F.

Jim, I think your answer is what I was searching for - normally I'd dev for 1600 and bump the contrast but I've never shot Neopan @ 800 before so I wanted to "be sure" per se.

You'll find how beautiful P1600's tonality and grain are when shot at its speed... And it's the perfect film for the flat scenes you had.

I've not tried it in Xtol, but in D76 1+1 I get great results at EI 640 with 7 minutes of developing at 68 degrees.

I've developed a bunch of Neopan 1600 with 1000EI with XTOL 1+1 for 7.5 minutes at 20 degrees with great results.

I shoot it at 640, Dave. Develop in Rodinal, however.

I went with 800 @ 5.75 min (the temp was 22 C / 71.6 F) - negs look nice 🙂

Thanks a ton for the input guys.. Now I just have to wait for them to dry and then scan them.
