I don't know. I really like the soft focus and contrast in the first shot. It has a dream like quality that looks surreal on my monitor.

That one was the one that made think about leaving them be, but I agree the others don't have that quality. I do like the rendering of the R-D1 and Photoraw B&W - seems like a good starting point.Sailor Ted said:

Thanks Ted - I think you are right - personal preferences. I don't have a huge amopunt of B&W experience so its good to get opinions. I see a lot of what I think are extreme contrast shots (not my cup of tea) and am cautious about over doing it!

gdi: I don't think I see much, if any, difference between the two versions of #1. Any difference is too subtle for me to prefer one to the other.

I like this one- it looks like it could be a grave yard form the old Thunderbirds puppet show : ) Also scary in a sense where the other shot was somewhat heavenly. I guess it depends where you think you'll end up (if you believe in such things.)
