I think that is some good evidence to support the RD-1
man .... looks real good; though could stand a little work with the levels

I actually wanted to see how the process would perform straight out of the camera - so yes there is a lack of contrast. I may tweak them for comparison.
Thanks for the comments!

I don't know. I really like the soft focus and contrast in the first shot. It has a dream like quality that looks surreal on my monitor.

That one was the one that made think about leaving them be, but I agree the others don't have that quality. I do like the rendering of the R-D1 and Photoraw B&W - seems like a good starting point.Sailor Ted said:I don't know. I really like the soft focus and contrast in the first shot. Here I tweaked a few a little...

I agree with the previous posts: #1 is very nice.

Regarding #1 - which looks best, the original or the second I posted? I think I like the low contrast of the original for this shot...

Strange- I'd love to see your re-due however when I click on the thumbnail I get booted back to the login screen? Anyway that first image in the first set was exceptional- I'll be trying some of that at my very next opportunity and when / if I can link on the rework I'll let you know what I think.

I just got a look- I'd say it boils down to personal preference and monitor calibration.

Thanks Ted - I think you are right - personal preferences. I don't have a huge amopunt of B&W experience so its good to get opinions. I see a lot of what I think are extreme contrast shots (not my cup of tea) and am cautious about over doing it!

#1 shows why I made the decision to stay with the RD-1. Of course, the key phrase is "for now"

Nice shoots! They are as good as they can be - with or without M8

gdi: I don't think I see much, if any, difference between the two versions of #1. Any difference is too subtle for me to prefer one to the other.

I understand why ! I accidentally posted the same version twice! I corrected that - and here is the (slightly) tweaked version again... I like this one- it looks like it could be a grave yard form the old Thunderbirds puppet show : ) Also scary in a sense where the other shot was somewhat heavenly. I guess it depends where you think you'll end up (if you believe in such things.)

really nice shots GDI. Congrats.
As I already said, I'd love to own an RD-1
My pockets are not deep enough for thinking of an M8.
Currently using Pentax Ds and 43mm limited.

While I was considering the M8 - I think I'll stick with the Epson for a while. I really have a lot to learn in the RF space and what I have is probaly not so bad (all CV Lenses). Thanks for the comment! I need to get a bit this week to take some shots and practice!
