Just received a J8 from a fellow RFF member (thanks Chris) and after dismantling it to smoothen up the aperture ring, I finally got to use it briefly.

Close to wide open 800 iso jpg only and B/W setting.

Some colour shots to follow soon.

beautiful, John! gorgeous tones and soft bokeh, yet clearly sharp (look at those lashes!).

Hi Cam.

Haven't been around for a while as I'm right in the middle of a 3 month course for work which keeps me away from the computer and photography. But I did manage to snap the wife while she was studying.

I think I'll like this lens 🙂

John....These are excellent! I have the J8 and RD-1 too and have not used the lens much but have read it performs well. They say some have quality control issues but you obviously got a good one! You have a good eye too though! It's always about the person behind the camera and lens in the final analysis! I've seen breath taking shots with a Holga plastic play camera...have a good summer as we are heading into fall and winter...

Thanks Frank. You're dead right - just because our cameras have improved doesn't mean we are taking better photos then in the past. Mind you some already look at the R-D1 as some sort of 'ancient' technology 🙂

Yes, summer is not far away and even though our winters are mind, we are all looking forward to complaining about the heat 🙂

totally understandable that you've been away, but it's a pity you haven't been able to shoot. then again, you've got a lovely model without having to move much... i think you'll like it fine as well. beware, though, i think it's in love with your wife 😉

the lens, indeed, look like a gem -- but i won't look too closely. i have a C-Sonnar coming to me and i'm not allowing myself another 50mm (unless it's really fast!). thanks for the heads up, though -- i'll have to look out for other focal lengths.
