Is there any ever-ready-case from an other camera which is cheap (used or new) and fits on an R-D1 with a Leica 2/50 or 1,4/35 with lens-hood?

I think Didier once posted that a Zorki case will work with a little modification. If I'm remembering correctly, then you can't get much cheaper than that.

Take care,
michael

No, it's a Kiev 4AM case, and without any modification. The bottom screw fits with some slight fiddling. I believe all Kiev rangefinders and Contax copies had the tripod mount at the same place, so all cases suitable for them should fit the Epson. On the pictures below, there's still the Epson strap on which could be taken off when used with the case. The lens bulge is made out of plastic and quite robust. As you can see, the 35 Summilux asph fits well into the case; without hood, of course. I guess, almost every 35-50 lens fits, except Noctilux, 35/1.2 Nokton, Canon 50/1.2/0.95. Older cases are made out of leather and the lens bulge looks smaller, so no warranty on that. Usually these cases are sold with a Kiev or fake Contax. Maybe a FSU seller can offer you a single one on request. OTOH - this would be a great occasion to buy one these very affordable, very pleasant cameras (starting at $30, lens & case included)...

Voigtlander cases that should work are available from cameraquest for $40 or $60. I have the brown one ($60) for my bessa r, and I think it's great.

I may be wrong here :D but I think I've read that they don't fit. The screen at the back of the R-D1 make the camera thicker than the Bessas.

Oops. Thanks for the correction. Looks like buying a Kiev is the best option after all!

I have been told by Yuriy Davidenko of dvdtechnik that he has a dozen of Kiev cases left at the time. Though I own and use such a case, I have to admit I'll wish a Luigi halfcase from my wife for my birthday. The "rallye" one...

Didier,
I too would like one of the Luigi's in the "rallye" finish. Although the black is really classic, that weathered finish is very cool. Maybe your wife can get a discount if she buys two -- my birthday is in September :)
