I don't know whether someone has already found out this - I noticed the Kiev 4-AM has the tripod screw thread about at the same place as the Epson. I tried to fit the Epson into the original Kiev case (black leather fullcase with Kiev stamp on the front) - and - it fits! The screw must be fiddled into the thread but once found it screws in well, and the case must be a little bit forced over the Epson bottom plate. The lens bump of the case even takes a 35mm asph summilux (without hood).

I would say it's not worth the shipping costs to let a Kiev case come from Ukrainia, but those who happen to have one may try it out.

That's good news Didier. Got a some of those Kiev cases lying around...all that I need now is an RD-1 to put into one of them...:D

Another suggestion for R-D1 case

Another suggestion for R-D1 case

Hello all. If you have some large old SLR cases ( I don't mean the ones from 1990's vintage, but more like the big ones from the 1970's), try it. The R-D1 may fit. I tried the 4 or 5 I have sitting around, and the old Leica SL case fits very nicely. You would have to nudge the tri-pod screw in a little bit to fit, probably the same way the Kiev 4-AM gets fitted. Actually, you know, the quality of that old stuff is rather nice. I also tried the cases for Leica R3, and Nikon F3, but they don't fit nearly as nicely. good luck.:)
