Hi everybody,

I just bought a Nikon SB-20 for the few times I need a flash. I put some rechargeable batteries in it and shot a few pics to test it with the R-D1, it worked very nice. But on the next day, it did not fire anymore, neither on the hotshoe nor with the pc sync plug.

With my old Leica M2 it worked normally, so I thought the flash sync of the R-D1 was somehow dead. But after recharging the batteries of the SB-20, I retried, and it works again!

So if you think you have a problem with flash on the R-D1, try some fresh batteries before sending it to repair! And I am quite curious about what could cause this. I thought that firing the flash on a simple hotshoe socket or sync cord was just a matter of shorting the 2 poles, like it is mechanically done in the Leica, and had nothing to do with the flash batteries?

Does somebody have an explanation for this?
