All - The front covering on my R-D1 is peeling near the hinge . There may have been some discussion about this here in the past but I couldn't track it down. Anyone else encounter this and provide suggestions? Can I re-glue it with another adhesive? Should I completely recover the front? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Mike

I have had the same problem in the past, mainly because I often removed the top plate of mine (you need to remove the covering for that).

I tried several kinds of double-sided adhesive tape, but it always went off at some point. The best solution I found is :
- remove the front coverings completely
- completely clean them and the metal camera parts under them with a tissue impregnated with a solvent (lighter fluid or something similar). Don't use too much, it shouldn't drip in the electronics. It is probably a good idea to remove the battery for this
- glue the coverings back in place with 5 or 6 very tiny point of cyanoacrylate glue (krazy glue or something similar).

The coverings can be removed again later if needed, and the glue won't leave much residue. It can be scratched off before you glue it back again.

Cameraleather coverings are probably a good idea (I have a griptac covering on my M2, they're really nice) as long as you don't need to open your camera.

You can also buy spare original coverings and adhesives there:

I have recently removed the front cover from my RD-1 prior to applying black lizard covering from cameraleather. The black sticky residue took some time to remove by just rubbing and using the plastic tooth pick from a swiss army knife in the corners/edges.I would be careful if you choose the solvent route as there are gaps in between the plates that form the front of camera.Hope to get the covers on later today or tomorrow will post a picture when it is done.
Regards
Steve

Has anyone found a suitable solution for the rear hump? Mine continues to come loose and I'm not sure what the best solution is: remove it all and griptac or glue the hump per the instructions above (and griptac!)

actually, i cut out a piece of an old leather jeans and covered my R-D1 myself.
including the rear hump!

of course, it looks less perfect than professional covers, but good enough for me, and a pleasure to hold.

cheers,
sebastian

I used to own an RD-1 and had the same thing happen. This worked very well for me LINK, much better than any of the glues that I tried.

That has been my "solution," too. Much depends on the ambient temperature, as heat softens the glue on the tape.
