I have been wanting to post this for a long time. there are expensive cases out there. But I was looking for something cheap and functional. So, I made my on case with pieces of leather, craft wire and glue. It gives the necessary grip, as you can see a little bump in the front. It also protects the R-D1's original grip. I have made a flip cover for the card slot. The tripod mount is accessible as there is no cover on the bottom.

My case only covers half the camera, but in most cases, that is all you need as the other hand is busy focusing the lens. All camera functions are acessible at all times.

I hope someone will find this useful and get inspired to make their own case.

I'd call this a leather grip rather than a case. Either that or you could call it a quarter-case since it's half of a half-case.

Anyway it is pretty neat. Does it stay put relatively well?

I was wondering if anyone would reply or comment.

So Sam, thanks for commenting.

Agree, it is a quarter case or grip. It stays very well becasue the top part of the grip locks with the strap holder. There is a wire at the top as well, similar to the bottom wire that you see in the picture. You will notice in the last picture that the strap is going through the grip. I know, my pictures have not come out nice.
