Getting one for £1150
I'm just happy to say that a demo R-D1 from Robert White (UK) for £1050 is on the way to me. With shipping plus the VAT/customs of my country (Switzerland) it costs me £1150. No grey import, and with full warranty.
I can't wait to get it...

Gruezi, Didier, maybe we should start a Zürich R-D1 group.

Why not? But first I got to get the camera - it's still on the way... and then get used to it...

That's a good price. I bought mine when they were £1150 new but there was UK VAT (sales tax) on top of that. Switzerland obviously treats imports more favourably... Hope you enjoy the camera, I know I do.

Just a quick word of caution for anyone with a new camera. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere yet:
I found the anti-reflective coating on the LCD display very easy to scratch. Even wiping off nose grease with a very soft cloth would mark the screen. I put a PDA/LCD protective sheet on mine to prevent further damage.
It looks as if the anti-reflective coating is on an adhesive sheet attached to the screen. You can see the edge of the sheet because it's is slightly smaller than the screen. Maybe it's possible to replace, but I've no idea where you would obtain them from.
Bob.

Are you sure that's not also a protective sheet?
I have not been able to scratch the LCD until I threw in a set of door keys with the camera in a bag. The scar is bad but not deep. I could probably fix it with some cell phone lcd scratch fixing "glue".

RML is right. That "anti-reflective film" is just a piece of protective plastic your supposed to peel off and throw away. The screen itself is very durable and doesn't need any protection unless you are very anal. All LCD screens will develop some light scratches but this is not a lens. You can only see them when the LCD screen is off. I defy anyone to see light scratches when the display is on.
However, I never dragged a set of keys across the screen either. GOOD WORK, RML
