As you may know from a previous post, here, I'm fussy about lens shades.
I just got a 50/2 Hexanon, and with the shade shown, it works a treat. I don't know the name, but it reminds me of the old Exakta lens hoods. Does any one recognize it?
While I'm on the subject, we get dedicated viewfinders for the 1.5 crop factor, so why not dedicated lens shades for the CV lenses? Maybe someone could start a business?

Alt Canon 50mm Lens Hood.
Alt Canon 50mm Lens Hood.
Phil,
Found This Lens Hood today that works great with my Canon 50mm
Will work well with others I believe. Plus Cheap
(about 9 pounds)
Made by Hama (German I think) It basically slips over the filter and there
is a retaining ring, comes with a cap too!
The one I got was for filter thread 55 but they had 3-4 smaller sizes too.
Kinda reminds me of the wide angle Leica Hoods.
I'm thinking about taking my dremil to it to carve out a vent so that
it is even better
Cheers
Mike.

That hood looks good on the 1.2 Mike ! Have you tested it for possible vignetting wide open ? I have a 'hoodless' 1.2 and I'd have a look at this Hama hood.

Hi taffer, Thusfar I have only tested on the RD-1, and wide open there is no vignetting,
I hope to have results from Lens-Hood combo on my M2 in a couple of days, will let you know what I find.

The Hama hoods are listed in US in sizes 49mm, 52mm and 55mm. Sadly, not 58mm (Avenon)
For some reason they're not listed on the Hama UK site.

OK, Just got the results back from testing the Hama hood with film.
shots taken with the Canon 50mm f1.2 + Hama Hood as above on an M2
Film was Kodak BW400CN
The first three shots were f1.2 & f1.4 have included the last as was shot
at an angle that would have produced Glare/flair without the hood.
To me the Hama hood would seem to be a good choice for the Canon
whether using on a film camera or with RD-1.
Mike.

I just found out Heliopan make a range of very nice metal round lens hoods - not cheap but quality stuff. The 46mm normal shade is perfect for the 28/1.9 Ultron on the R-D1, and the 58mm wide is a huge improvement over the supplied shade for the Avenon.
Also, the CV LH1 rectangular shade with the mask I made for the CV 21/4 also does a good job on the CV 35/1.7, again much better than the supplied one.

update to lenshoods
Hi,
FWIW I thought I'd share where I got to with the lens shades. I'm now very happy with the performance of all these lenses, even the Konica 50, with can get a nice veil of flare into the sun, like the old Nikons.
The hood on the 28/1.9 Ultron is a Heliopan, 46mm metal. The 35/1.7 Ultron is wearing a modified LH-1. And the 21/2.8 Avenon has the Heliopan 58mm wide angle metal hood. They Heliopans are nicely made, and very reasonable. The hood on the 50/2 Hexanon is unknown, but it might be from an exakta varex or something like that - does anyone know?
cheers
Phil
ps the upload is in two parts.

Here are the 21 and the 50...
By the way, the grip is the famous FM grip from photo-equip , modified by Eric Paulsen. Their service is excellent. I covered it with leather from an old motorcycle jacket, and it has fantastic grip.
The eyepiece is the Nikon FM diopter.

I've given myself fits the last couple of days trying to run down the info on where to purchase this replacement lens hood.
Does anyone know where it can be had?
Thanks in advance.

I get mine from a company called Teamwork in London, UK (link). They carry a large range, and are beautifully made. On their website, look under 'filters' and go to the bottom of the Heliopan page to see the lenshoods.bunkawen14 said:I've given myself fits the last couple of days trying to run down the info on where to purchase this replacement lens hood.

Thanks very much for the info. Love the lens and want a better hood for my M8, which arrives next week.

note: the shade I use is for a normal lens, and works well with the R-D1's 1.6x crop factor.bunkawen14 said:Thanks very much for the info. Love the lens and want a better hood for my M8, which arrives next week.
You may need a slightly wider shade to prevent vignetting on the M8's 1.33 crop factor sensor.
