I recently acquired a Nippon Kugaku 35, coated version, M39 thread. It was mounted on a Leica IIIf that I purchased at at flea market. Not exactly a common sight around these parts, this lens.
So, here's the tryout on a beautiful sunny day.
The RAW file was converted in Epson Raw with +1 edge enhance, white balance tweaked, nothing else. Below is a 100% crop. Shot at ISO 200, 1/750s, f 5.6 or 8.
In my book, this qualifies as an amazing lens. Only the images shot with my Summicrons look as nice as this straight out of the camera.

Kugaku = Kogaku?

I don't think any of the LTM Nippon Kogaku lenses (a.k.a. Nikkor) were duds. They're all great. Congrats on your find. Is it the f/1.8, f/2.5, or f/3.5 version?

Yes, Kogaku. It's the f3.5 version. Would have loved the f1.8, but I guess luck has limits.
