Well, I went back to the local store where they are selling the new R-D1. I tried to get a better price, which I had the impression I could. They stick at 2250$, including the Rollei Sonnar 40mm f2.8. I think it’s a bit high. I tried to shave more from that price but the seller didn’t want, so I walked out. Of course I could get cheaper as used one, but it still electronic and I’m always aware, even more if I can’t see it before buying. Then I began to think I should stick on films, since I’m not ready to put that money on convenient digit cam. I need good arguments.
Do you think it’s still a fair price for a new 3 or 4 years old digital cam? :bang:

My opinion would be to walk away from that camera. Buy new off eBay from one of the reputable sellers or, if you're lucky, find a used on. Last week there was one on eBay for US $1,500. At that price you could have the body and a nice piece of glass for the same amount you've been quoted locally.

The RD1 might be 3-4 years old but its ergonomy will never become obsolete. Sure, higher pixels, better dynamic ranges, higher ISO are common today, but this camera will always produce good quality pictures (even in low light) if you print up to A4 and even A3.
Unluckily, I do not think the price will go down unless Leica or another comes up with a modern rangefinder in an affordable price range. But nothing aims at it therefore as of today, the RD1 is unique. I paid $2800 for mine (the euro ...) but do not regret a single instant. You can get it used, but won't get the warranty and it seems repairs costs are very high out of warranty.

I thought they'd come down a few times
since my interest in them in 2004, and owning 3 of them, but like my Fuji F30 and F31fd, they're holding up well. There's nothing close to them, and if you shoot color, and/or high ISO, they're way ahead of the M8 with a better hot filter on the sensor not needing expensive filters on each lens.
