Hi folks!

Digital newcomer with R-D1 has a question to the raw conversion process. I like the look of the in-camera JPEGs but thought that I can still optimize using Raw files.

I tried to convert the raw files in PhotoRAW 1.21 and in Photoshop CS5 but wondering about the colors of the final JPEGs. When I open the raw files in the raw processor, they look pretty good on my monitor, almost identical than the in-camera JPEGs, but after exporting them they look rather dull. They definitely look different than previously on my monitor.

Do you guys have discovered similar behaviour? Any hints?

Thanks a lot!
Regards
Matthias

There are two ways to use the raw conversion in Photoshop. The first is to use PhotoRaw as a plug-in (the setting for this is in the preferences menu in Photoshop). I have never been satisfied with the results in PhotoRaw. I like the converter for its ease of use but that is all. The second way to process raw files is with Adobe's CameraRaw that is built into Photoshop and Bridge. You can batch process, you can save as jpg or tiff, or open into Photoshop. For me Bridge and CameraRaw as a combination works as well as Lightroom. Lastly, you can customize the processing settings in CameraRaw such as sharpness or create separate vignettes for different. lenses.
