I love the R-D1, but my rubber is peeling off. I just yanked it off (on grip side) looked like terminator version of the R-D1, so I've recovered it with cameraleather.com simp ele leica style black. It looks ok, can't really tell cause I've got an FM grip mounted on it. But, at the same time, would like to know where I could find these replacement parts. I usually order these rubber parts from nikon for my nikons easily... how easy it to find these part?

Anybody here having the same problem?

My RD-1 that I just bought used is doing the same thing, if you do a quick search theres been a couple threads about it. Most of the threads talk about reattaching the existing rubber but they may be helpful for what your doing as well.

Yes, the covering on mine on the right side (the shutter release side) started to come off after a few months. After some unsuccessful attempts @ using various glues, I managed to semi-permanently reattach the panel w/industrial double-sided tape that I purchased from Microtools (I'm sure there are other sources). I have no idea where you could get replacement panels (perhaps from Cosina? I'm not sure if the R-D1's Bessa siblings have the exact same coverings, though).

All the bessa ( Cosina) R cameras use self adhesive rubber grips. Once they peel thats it as it is pretty hard to get them to stick back on. They are easy to remove and replace on the standard Bessas and the grips can be purchased as a set here in OZ. Chase up your local agent for the RD-1.

You can get the replacement grip and dobule side adhesive from Epson but they ask for too much for me.
I use UHU with satisfactory result.
The problem for me is that the grip "extended' and thus you have to trim them a bit to make a perfect fit.

See my website for where to buy Epson R-D1 spares (in Europe - no idea for the US).

You can buy replacement adhesive strips from Epson - expensive for what they are, but it's only a few dollars.

Normal adhesives don't seem to be strong enough: the other alternative is a particualr 3M tape: see the bottom of http://www.richcutler.co.uk/r-d1/r-d1_18.htm, and note the hairdryer tip!

I wonder if there's any chance Cameraleather or Aki Asahi (?) would do replacement coverings...? Market demand might be a bit thin.

I believe there was a mention in a thread a week or two ago concerning Cameraleather. As I remember it, the poster had contacted them, and Cameraleather needed an RD1 to use as a model to correctly make the pieces.

I've been chatting with Morgan at cameraleather.com, showed him a fake mockup of an R-D1 with red leather... drool.. the red looks pretty snazzy... you need at least 2-4 layers to simulate the same thickness of the rubber though.
