Shutter Problem Solved!!

Shutter Problem Solved!!

Difficult to express how great I feel right now! My shutter failed and as a poor student I really didn't know what to do. Sending it to Steve's Camera for repair from Europe would have cost me like atleast 400 euros. This as such was too much for me and I was afraid that maybe it's possible that it might be even more if there is something seriosly wrong with shutter. I also didn't like the idea of posting my camera to the USA. And I kept reading from the internet that repairing the Epson is not that easy to do and one should send the camera for a specialist with experience with the R-D1.

Luckily I took camera just a few blocks away from where I live to an old-school camera repair shop. They said they'll look at it and for my relief they were able to fix it! There was a problem with the release device. They made it good, adjusted my vertical misalignment and even changed the peeled off leather skins of the R-D1 for 165 euros! A lot of money but I'd say a pretty good price for those three things considering what I was expecting.

Just wanted to let you know that if your shutter/release device fails it's possible to fix it even in Europe. The guy said that if the shutter it self fails it's possible for him to fix it no problem but the possible spare parts will have to be ordered from Epson. Does someone know is the Copal shutter exactly the same one as in some of the Bessas or is totally custom made for Epson? Just wondering becayse if it fails it's probably easier to get some spare parts from Cosina than from Epson.

R-D1 shutter

I searched this topic and found this thread. I just got my first R-D1 and I am just thrilled with it. I also got my M8 shutter upgraded. I must say after hearing my M8's new shutter, the R-D1 shutter sounds very tinny. Is there a way to adjust that shutter so it sounds smoother? Perhaps Steve can remedy this issue. Any thoughts? Much appreciated.

Had exact same problem. Has nothing to do with batteries. Mine's with Steve Choi at the moment. Hope to get it back around New Year's.

Got my R-D1 back from Steve Choi a week or two ago. Works like a charm. Highly recommended. He is very reasonable and flexible. Worked out by far the most economical option (in terms of time and money).
