Hello all,
I'm new to the forum. Just received my R-D1 yesterday so you can imagine my excitement. Of course, being the knucklehead that I am, I immediately started to look into upgrading to Ver 2.0 (R-D1s). From what I have found, seems to be fairly straightforward. My question is: Is this an upgrade process that works MOST of the time if done according to instructions? Any tricks or tips to ensure a successful upgrade? The LAST thing I want is an upgrade failure with an inoperative camera!
Thanks for any help out there.

mine went very smoothly. loaded the upgrade onto an sd card, inserted the card into the camera and the camera took over. i think i just had to push the ok button and wait.

I haven't heard of many (maybe any) failures in the process. Make sure the battery is fully charged.
The upgrade improved mine (when I had it) quite a bit.

IIRC, the one thing they tell you to do is make sure the battery is fully charged; only if the process is stopped half-way thru do you get problems.

How long does the process take once you stick the card in?
