I have never had on in my hands, but isn't it so that if you have an uncoupled lens when stopped down, you will have to look through a dark viewfinder. This is why I would still prefer my rangefinders.
Yes but......
1) Apparently the EVF brightens to off set the dimness of the finder to some degree correct this problem
2) Given that the maximum aperture of the kit lenses are f4 or f5.6 zoomed out.... if you intend on shooting at f5.6 or wider you are at least as bright as the kit lens when stopped down to that aperture. If you intend on shooting wider, you are better off. Consider too, I think... with the camera set to AV, if you intend on shooting at 5.6 or wider, there is no need to go through the stop down metering dance. Compose focus and shoot and let the camera do its thing.
Now think, how bright is that viewfinder going to be with a Noctilux wide open, or the 35/1.2 Nokton, or any f1.4 lens?
I have thought of the same question, but apparently so did the G1 designers and they have addressed it in a unique way.
