R-d1s needles

Hello everyone,

I recently picked up an essentially new r-d1s for $1365 (which I thought was a steal considering I would be the second owner and it having less than 1000 clicks and its pretty much immaculate condition!), but one thing I noticed is that even though my memory card is empty, the needle for the number exposures reads 100 or so.

Now I've tried calibrating the needles numerous times by setting the needle to "E" as instructed, but each time I click finish the needle moves back to the 100 mark instead of to 0.

Turning the camera off after calibrating and then turning back on yields the same result. when off, the needle reads "E" but turning back on (with an empty card) the needle goes back to 100.

Can anyone shed light on this issue?

If I have RAW+jpg selected then mine does the same thing, and its not far wrong, I would fit about 140-150 shots on the 2gb card... So I think it just errs on the low side..

Thanks for the reply! So this shows when your card is empty? Mine is set to RAW only.

Yup - 100 with empty card, and stays at 100 for some time then starts to drop.. Not sure when as I dont realy register what is happening in the guages, until something stops me taking another pic....

Sounds like you are confusing about what the needle shows, it shows space left on card rather than shots taken.

Sorry if this is not what you are going wrong.

Yes the long needle on the top of the meter shows the estimated number of remaining shots, not the taken ones. For instance, a bit more than 100 RAW+JPEG shots if you have an empty 2GB card.

Hi, I just received a RD1s today and found that the WB & Battery indication needles are dead (the other two are okay). I did several calibrations but they didn't move at all. The WB's stays at the dot next to the "Auto" while the battery's drops far beyond the "F". See picture below:

Anything can be done on this? Was is this caused by a third party battery (newly bought)?

This is probably not the battery but a wire inside. My old rd-1 had the other two needles not working while the WB and battery needles were fine. Previous owner told me that he had opened it to clean the viewfinder and disconnected one off the wires by accident.

No i didn't dare and just left the camera on Raw. On screen you could still see how many frames you've shot. Having no battery indicator is even more annoying though.

But mine, the WB's is not moving, it's a bit annoying though the WB still can be changed. 😡

Anyone else experienced a half dead gauge like mine? Any solution for this? Thanks
