Over on the dpreview site they mention that the R-D1s has a self timer.
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0603/06031502epsonrd1s.asp
On the Epson-RD1 UK site, under "Data & Facts" it says:
Shutter times 1 – 1/2,000 seconds, bulb
Aperture settings Timed automatic and manual modes
I believe that they typo'd and meant "shutter settings" as automatic aperture settings on a manual camera is difficult at best
Anyhow, all of these sites elude to the fact that there is a self timer built into the R-D1s that did not exist on the R-D1. Does anyone know how to access this via the menu system? I'd love to be able to take family portraits by mounting this on a tripod and running back into the scene..

Paul,
DPReview is wrong. You should, however, be able to screw one of the old-fashioned mechanical self-timers into the thread mount on your shutter release. I'm not sure where to find one but they did exist at one time.
Cheers,
Sean

That is a shame. I'm now curious about what Epson UK means when they say "Aperture Mode: Timed automatic and manual modes". I understand the manual mode, but timed automatic aperture? More typos?

I am assuming it is fancy speak for in aperture (priority) mode the camera will "automatically" choose a shutter speed. Which is the definition of aperture priority.

Here's a site that sells the mechanical self timer that Sean mentioned. Much more fun than a flashing red light.

Thanks for the link, looks a nice anti-dote to all the digital electronics!

Just bought one - for $28.50, you can't go wrong. I love the red "flag" which goes round like some sort of ancient rail-road signal. Paid by paypal and prompt response from DrT, so just waiting for the mail.
