R to M240 adapter

Have an M240 and want to use my R lenses. Have 2 old R to M8 adapters. One is a ray quil, the other was more expensive (do not recall the name)Nothing to, so while watching Michigan(lucky win). I mounted both adapters and found the ray quil tight.the other was loose. Although I focused by the seat of my pants and manually set aperature and ISO, got some pretty good shots. Wondering however if I should await the M240 which I have ordered. Any comments?

I meant above shall I wait for the new adapter from Leica. Are older adapters code able to function on the new M. Will it be necessary to have a different adapter for each lens

There seems to be an element of mystery about the R to M adapters for he M240.

I put in an order for one last June and was told by a local Leica dealer last Friday that mine " should arrive sometime in February".

I have asked a few people who should know about coding etc etc and haven't got far. A few weeks ago I put a shout out here to see if anyone had actually received one of he Leica adapters but if I recall no one responded in the positive.

I just received the new Leica adapter and it's a superb piece of work and includes a tripod foot. This enabled entering the R lens correction. While I was waiting for this, I used an inexpensive Amazon equivalent and that worked ok also on the M240 with my Leica R 80-200/4 lens.

I used an SRB adapter to put Nikon lenses on a Type 240, so I'd be surprised if third-party adapters wouldn't work for Leica lenses too.

The official Leica R to M adapters are being delivered right now. I was able to order one in a webshop in Germany for 250 Euro. Seems to be better compared to the Novoflex one.

I have a modified old Leicina adapter and a Novoflex one, both coded, both work just fine. I see no need to spend money on the rather overpriced Leica one.

I, of course, live in wonderful Australia, blessed with abundant natural splendour but the perennial poor relation in the world of Leica.

Eight months after I paid the whole of the purchase price for the R-M adapter on pre-order, I can't even get the local Leica "boutique" to answer my calls.


These are the same people who, each time I visit their bricks and mortar store, speak so disparagingly about local Leica users who buy their new gear overseas rather than supporting their local dealer.

I received my R-M adapter last Friday and played with it with a number of R lenses over the weekend. Its very very good and more than exceeds my expectations as to construction and use.

A word of caution to anyone considering buying a non-Leica R-M adapter for use on their M while waiting for, or instead of , the Leica one. I purchased a cheaper version from ebay some months ago which was advertised as "coded". It wasn't.

Another I tried, which was advertised as able to be coded, had what looked like the correct "indentations"' at the contact point which seemed to invite the use of black felt tip marker or enamel paint to emulate coding. It didn't work.

The Leica product instantly brings up a comprehensive list of common R lenses in the manual lens coding section of the menu allowing selection of the correct lens. No fuss.

Are they coded?

The Novoflex and the new Leica adapter is coded. The difference is some 100€ and the screwable tripod mount at the Leica adapter. So if you want to adapt a larger lens (which needs a tripod) the Leica one is favourable. If not - Novoflex or a DIY coding on herritage adapters*, RayQual & Co..... 🙂 * note the old Leica M adapter is made for a Leicina cine camera and _may_ have problems with some lenses (vignetting)
