With all the reported problems and shortcomings of the M8/M9, customer service etc . . are you on the whole, happy with your purchase/s?

My most recent M is approaching 40 years old. My oldest is over 50. They've seen hard service over the years. As soon as they wear out I'm trading them in on digital cameras.

My question is towards Leica as a whole, not specific models.
I just wanted to get my head round whether users are generally happy or not with their lot, given all the complaints that tend to circulate round here.

It's a Leicacentric forum. Where else should complaints or praise be posted?

...as soon as they wear out, I'll replace them...
That's hilarious Al, got me grinning ear to ear.
I'm the owner of a 1971 M5 (only a couple of months older than it) and its still got the seal on, never been serviced. I dare to say it handled these 38 years better than I did.
Guess what I voted.

Oh, and to the one voter that is not at all happy with his or her Leica: I feel your pain. Drop me a line and I'll relieve you of it (and of the camera)

You are just up the road from me and we both know that it can be a bit wet `round these parts. Nothing like a manual Leica when its pouring down (as it is now). They keep on going where as my little digital Pany point and shoot steams up and stops working. It doesn`t work again `till the sun comes out
Very happy with my M3 and M2 and the good advice that I got from this forum.

My M2 is 51 years old. When it wears out (maybe in 99 years from now) I will trade it in for a brand new M film camera!

My MP and M3 are, for me, the perfect cameras.

Very happy. I have an M2, 51 years old and its a blinder of a camera.
I lost a screw from the top plate walking 160 miles with it around my neck the whole time in June this year and half way 'round I phoned Leica in Milton Keynes and spoke with an engineer. They sent me the screw -- all for free! I expected to be robbed blind!
The other week my rewind knob came off (quite rare I am told) and I shall send it to Malcolm Taylor on Monday to get it properly popped back on; but even I managed to repair it just for now.
That's what I love about my M2, it's mechanical and no electronics to date or foul. If something is broken, it just needs a new mechanical part, not a PCB that was last manufactured in 1985 or something like that!
So from that small experience and plus a free session with the M8 from Leica UK this May, I have to say I am dead happy with them. Best company I've dealt with.

If I look as good and work as well as my M3 when I reach its age, I'll be a very happy chap.
As for Leica's current offerings... couldn't say. Perhaps one day I'll be in a position to have an informed opinion.

Film, the next evolution.
For the record, I'm an avid Leica user, here for the long haul.
Both my CL and M8 are my main `weapons` of choice. Indeed, I sold a Canon G9 and a Bronica ETRSi to help purchase the M8. Even my 350d mainly sits in it's bag most of the time.
I think that for a small company, Leica have worked miracles for many years and survived much hardship.
Less shouting, more shooting.

This is sort of like a poll on a foot fetish website asking whether people like toes, no?

Not that I care that much, but if the above is your intention, maybe posting the poll in the digital M *only* sub-forum will results in something less optimal.
And reading one particular answer above reminds me *again* of why I shouldn't be reading anything from this particular sub-forum if I value my blood pressure being normal
