May skip the M9, looking forward to see the M10.

I figure the M10 will arrive after Leica managed to fill all the backorders and demand has been satisfied and sales are flat. Two years later?

Dust removal and better ISO, I'm not impressed enough with the M9 "improvement" in ISO to move from my M8.

Oh yes, very happy with what I've got.

I'm not really happy with the cameras. I gave up on the SLR's and thank goodness Leitax came up w/ a lens mount to put my wonderful Leica R glass on a Nikon body. I have a Nikon N6006 w/ a 50 and 90 R summicron and it couldn't be better. The camera Leica SHOULD have made.

My goodness a Nikon 6006....I have one that I bought new when they were current and still use it when the weather is poor. They be the best bargin in the realm of 35 SLR's.

I own a 1973 M5, been CLA about 10 years ago, I have had no problems at all. Very solid and rugged. I am very satisfied with Leica Quality as a whole.. I also on a 90mm Summicron V2.. again, no problems either. But these were made the old way...assembled by hand for the most part. Not sure post 1974 stuff when assembly went to Canada and Leica went to replace in lieu of adjust.

I wish the M9 had at least 5D MkII ISO performance. The same colours would be nice too. I really like the Canon look.

I also wish Leica would update the firmware so that the M8 had the same button layout as the M9.

But all in all I love my Leica's.

I'm happy with the X1. My M8 has been in repair for 1.5 months, so I'm not happy about that.

My old DS M3 is wonderful. I'm not sure how much good Leica derives from that, aside from the satisfaction.

Paired with a nice Nikon scanner, it's digital enough - but now Nikon has vacated the field I'd like to see what Leica could/should offer...

OK - I'm dreaming. That they would, or that I could afford it.

...Mike

What kind of a poll is This. its like asking someone riding a Prosche or Lambourgini, Do u like your car?! even its horrible its worth $$$$$$.

jus jokin ;)

I voted that I liked my Leica but it could have improvements. This is just a very minor frustration. I can load my Leica M6 pretty quickly but each time I load it I miss the convenience of loading film in my Nikon F100. With the F100, open up the film back, drop in the film cassette and pull the leader across the take-up spool and close the back. It grabs the film leader and winds to the first frame in about a second and a half. OK, it a very small thing just something that pops into my mind now and then. If Leica did that it wouldn’t be a Leica any more, and I love my Leica. I added the Thumbs-Up bracket to my M8 and it was a big improvement to my grip on the camera. Such a simple clean design with a much improved feel of confidence while holding the camera. I always use a camera strap for a bit of insurance against the possibility of dropping the camera. I did that once with an old beat up M4 and believe me it made a horrible sound when the camera hits a concrete floor. My heart stopped for a moment and I felt a little sick to my stomach. Not Leica’s fault, just a bumbling move by me.

You are just up the road from me and we both know that it can be a bit wet `round these parts......my little digital Pany point and shoot steams up and stops working. It doesn`t work again `till the sun comes out :)

That Pany must be equipped with Lucas electrics ;).

I cleaned the sensor the other day. What a mess. I have cleaned sensors in the worst of conditions from freezing environments etc and I got a 30D a few years ago as a backup that came out of the box with a horribly dirty sensor. The M9 I got wasn't much better than the D30. I was amazed as I "knew" the sensor would be clean from Leica. It took quite a bit of time to get it clean as it appears the whole internal box was in need to a dusting. There was also some sort of very small spattering of a shiny substance that had to be wet cleaned to get it off. The dust would not budge with air so again a total wet cleaning a few times.

Other than that and Leica telling me that if I have someone else adjust my lenses i could void the camera warranty??, I am pretty happy.

Yes, I'm happy with all of the Leica M film cameras. Personally, the M Leica is all about film photography, perfected over at least half a century.

Still waiting for my M9 to be done, and an M7 to be repaired but I love my Leicas. There are no other lenses that even come close.

Used M for years. No real problem with digital, even if the technology is not quite up to that in SLR cameras.

One concern I have is that someone mentioned that one cannot focus 90mm F2 lens wide open on a Leica M9, due to viewfinder magnification issues. Know this is the case with the 135mm lenses, but that was the first I'd heard of this being so with 90mm lenses.

Only bringing it up because I have had some problems w/ shots being out of focus, shooting at wide apertures w/ a 90mm Summicron, and I'm trying to determine if this is due to my needing new glasses, or whether there's an issue with the camera.

My 135/2.8 works fine with both M8 and M9. So does my 90/2. Am I just lucky? Or have I had no problems because I've tried it, instead of relying on Internet tittle-tattle (and indeed Leica instruction books, for the 135)?

Cheers,

R.

M9 wishlist for improvement:
1. Automatic dust removal
2. Automatic dust removal
3. Automatic dust removal
4. Automatic dust removal
5. Automatic dust removal

and perhaps quick format dedicated button?

Do you also want

1 Bigger heavier camera with shorter battery life
2 Bigger heavier camera with shorter battery life
3 Bigger heavier camera with shorter battery life
4 Bigger heavier camera with shorter battery life
5 Bigger heavier camera with shorter battery life?

Cheers,

R.

The Leica X1 and the upcoming Fuji X100 have automatic dust removal.. I hate cleaning sensors, so a fixed lens digital camera has some appeal.

Paul, I think it's not the fault of the camera so much as it is a matter of correct calibration of the lens. The digital sensors of M8 and M9 are more critical of accurate focus, so it may be desirable to have your lens(es) calibrated. I've sent most of my M-mount lenses for focus adjustment service, and most of these were slightly "off" and needed some tweaking for digital use.
