R2 and R2M?

The R2M has a fully mechanical shutter, the R2 has an electronic (battery dependent) shutter.

The R2 is a mechanical shutter with a battery for the light meter only. The R2 was discontinued then you got the R2A which was a electronic shutter with a aperture priority setting. Now the new R2M has basicly replaced the R2 as a fully mechanical shuttered rangefinder body.

I have no idea about the the actual new shutter but I understand the new light meter is very good and overall it is a stronger camera. I look forward to hearing from someone who has used both. I have been well pleased with a R2 Body and find them to be a good value.

There is a difference in the rangefinder. The R2 minimum focusing distance
is around 0.9m, while the R2M can focus to 0.7m. Depending on the lens
you're using, it can be important.

DOH!

:bang:

😀

Thanks again guys. All we need is input from someone who's used both.

OT: $1049 for the 'PRESENTATION' set on cameraquest.... now does this mean it comes with a fancy box I don't need?

Rewind crank is considerably better. Glad to see the R4 prototype had the better crank on it.

That 1049 will also get that 50 f2 Heliar as well as the box ;-) I am all for that lens, its a real gem.

If both R2 and R2M have mechanical Copal shutters...
what are the differences between the two bodies?

I thought the LENS determines focusing down to 0.9 or 0.7.
Thanks, mike

The R2m/R2a have the newer, better design and more durable Rewind Crank.

Arbib had made a good distinguishment on the diff between R2 and R2M. If you are going to get a daily RF, not a collector item, a R2 is already good enough. Cheers.
