I'm considering buying an R2 olive model. Are there any problems associated with this model and what would a mint minus one be worth. I appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks!
Thanks!

No problems. Great camera. If you want to use a neck strap and small lenses
you need a grip. About 350-400 US for the camera I would say.

my only complaint with the Bessa's is that the paint rubs off and wears far too quickly making the camera look tatty

No problems here either! I love my R2 and wouldn't hesitate to get another should anything happen to it. (In fact, I'm sort of considering buying another one as it is...)

one of the two tiny little screws holding the rewind lever on kept loosening and once the rewind lever fell off because of it. A jewelers screwdriver and a small dot of glue fixed that. Otherwise, awesome piece of kit and i love it to death.

I've got the earlier R model and I think there is an issue with the shutter jamming if you wind on too early after pressing the shutter. It's easy to unjam but worth noting nevertheless.

if I remember right the rangefinder uncouples at .9 meters, and I heard a bit about wonky shutters. I say go for it though if you want something light weight for the bag.

I've had mine since they came out about 5+ years ago, love it, no problems so far.
Paint rubs off?? I don't know what some people do to cameras?? Paint on mine is just fine.

On the Rxx series the viewfinder eyepiece unscrews itself and is easily lost. I don't know if this is the same with the earlier models.
You can get replacements, but if yours is missing it's something to negotiate about.

IMO R2 is much much better than the older R. I had both. The R2 has solid magnesium alloy body. There is NO eyepiece to get lost. The paint doesn't wear off, but it sometimes chips off. But otherwise it's a great camera. Go for it!

John, Ok when im out and about my camera lives in my army jacket pocket so gets rubbed a lot by the material.
Spyderman, I hate to disagree with you but the paint definately rubs off. Look at the edges and front left corner with a magnifier and most will be rubbing a bit smoother than the other paint. I suppose it depends on use. Mine went through very quick and was the main reason I got rid of it and bought an M6.

I have my R2 in Olive as well. I love this army like colour. Two cons, namely a bit loud shutter and the position of the strap nug. It will tile forward when you hang it on your shoulder or neck. It's a common problem among Bessa unless you get a grip. Hope it helps.

Thanks everyone. I purchased a minty olive R2 that should be here in a few days. Got it for $304 plus shipping. I didn't really need a new one but have wanted one since looking at one of the RFF members Bessas a year ago. I needed another RF like a hole in the head but i thought it would make a nice travel kit with a 35 PII and a 75 CV. I carry an old tattered and dirty olive green gas mask bag with a camera and couple of lenses and thought this would be a nice kit to carry. When I travel I carry this and no one knows what I have in it. I just look like a crazy old hippy with long hair and a bag.

So did I once, but the hair has now long gone, and the old bag became my wife for a short time, but thats another story!!

The exwife thing isn't funny even after 14 years. I have one too but traded up to the DELUX model. I'll keep this one!
My assistant is from Scotland and he has no hair too. Must be something in the water or air or something. I drive him nuts with my hair. It's about 20 inches long and I'm older than he is.
