I doubt demand has dropped off. B&H sold out of their 3A's in about 2 days.

In Hong Kong, R3a/R2a is just HKD$4080, about USD$500 ........
and the CV Lens also very cheap, I bought the 25/4 last month just $1520, it's less than USD$200.......

The thing I really wonder is: How come the R2A/R3A are now cheaper than the R2. Are there any advantages with the R2 whatsoever over the R2A/R3A, except maybe that you can operate the shutter without batteries, albeit then also without meter... ?

Not necessarily. As Stephen Gandy notes on his web site, the R2 was discontinued in July 2004 and the factory is sold out. Sometimes the price actually goes up under those circumstances, as when the CV 35mm/f2.5 Pancake I lens was discontinued. The eventual price increase on that lens was 26%.
