R2a Battery

That battery has so many different names.

I got my latest batch from a Chinese shop and the label reads: AG13, 357A, CX44, LR44W G13, 357, SR44.

I tend to trust Small Battery Company for information about this sort of thing.

Edit: Looking up that CR 1/3N I can see it's more than twice the price of two LR44's. Does it last more than twice as long? I know that Gareth (the OP) bought his camera in late 2006, so that makes it six months old or so now and needs a new battery. My LR44's last about the same time at about one film a week on average.

CR 1/3Ns are 3V Lithium cells that are the same diameter but twice the hieght of LR44/SR44s. They produce the same voltage as 2 LR44/SR44s as well so you only need one and you can only fit one in the space of 2 LR44/SR44s. However, because there is no wasted space between cells, theres more chemicals in the CR 1/3N which in theory, should outlast 2x LR44/SR44s. You can usually find CR 1/3Ns for $3-$5 per battery online but they are getting hard to find.

Ok, lets do some math.

Here's whats already known:

2xLR44 = 2xSR44 = 1xCR1/3N

LR44 = Alkaline Chemistry/1.5V
SR44 = Silver Oxide Chemistry/1.55V
CR1/3N = Lithium Chemistry/3.0V

LR44 = 150mAh capacity at 1.5V - 150mAh x 1.5V x 2cells = 450mWh total capacity for 2 cells
SR44 = 200mAh capacity at 1.55V - 175mAh x 1.55V x 2cells = 542mWh total capacity for 2 cells
CR1/3N = 160mAh at 3.0V - 160mAh x 3.0V x 1cell = 480mWh total for one cell

So thats an interesting number. SR44 > CR1/3N > LR44 on paper at least.

This place: http://www.sr44.com has some pretty cheap SR44s!

I bought the camera in October 2006. I haven't used it much, and it also spent a few months in Japan back at Cosina to be repaired. Yup it had to go all the way back to Japan to have the re-wind crank repaired, hopeless.

My battery is still OK, showing more than 3v.
I have some spare SR44W batteries.
