R2A Viewfinder readout

Have just shot my first roll of film and am pleased with the camera except I find the shutter speed readout hard to see against a bright background.
Is this a common issue?

Yes, to my mind, it's the major drawback of the R series.

I have difficulty with that myself at times. To check the speed, I place my left hand over the front of the viewfinder to darken it.

Same here, it works pretty well.

yep I have an R2A and have the same problem...
I almost never bother checking the speed when out shooting though...
