R3A Finder - Darker than R/R2?

Not in a bad way! But when I compare my R to R3A it seems a contrast filter has been added to make the RF patch seem super bright! This is pretty cool, but I was wondering if this is the way the camera came from the factory? Or was it a later modification? (I am not the original owner.) This particular example has a fairly low serial number #000012XX.

Love the RF on this camera - except with glasses even the 50 frameline is uncomfortably tight.... the 40 frameline, maybe you can see the upper and left hand sides. Maybe. I think I need an R2...

A slightly narrower angle of view in the same physical space should result in a slightly brighter image: the important word being "slightly".

This is definitely going the other way. It's a good bit darker - but by contrast the RF patch is awesomely bright.

I've heard of people doing this to older RFs to improve their usability.
