Hi to all. I jst got a used Grey R3A here in the classifieds and want to express some of my first impressions on it. I own 7 M model Leicas(M3 to M7), so obviously I will compare it to them. First an observation: someone correct me if I am wrong, but I know that Cosina made a change to the R2-3A models rewind crank from one with a hole in the middle of it to a stronger 2 piece model. BUT, I have NEVER seen a Grey model with anything other than the stronger 2 piece unit, even in advertising pictures...can anyone here confirm that? Anyway, I really like this camers...it is built very well, has a very nice VF, and is very small. I intend to use it as a camera to keep in the car at all times with 3 lenses. It remindes me very much of a re-designed CL, more modern but in the same light(for a M) and compact package. It handles very well. The 1:1 VF is really easy to get used to, and I have an external Zeiss 25-28 VF in the shoe for the wideangels. The VF is not as clear as my M7, but is better than my CL. A good compromise for the price. The shutter speeds can wash out in bright light, so I just hold my left forefinger over the bottom of the VF to make them show up. I will post some pictures when I get them back. Oh, my RF was off vertically from shipping, so I posted a DIY on that here that I learned from several different post here...it was real easy to correct. Like I said, this little camera has made a real good first impression on me!
