With a new (used) R3A on the way from Cameraquest, I'm now trying to decide whether or not to keep the R I bought not long ago.
I like the R. It's the gateway drug that's led me to the R3A.
I could use it as a second body, loaded with faster film, sitting in the bag and ready to go. I guess that's not a very compelling reason to hold on to it really. On the other hand, I'd only be able to get about $200 out of selling it, and I don't really need any other gear with that money.

Decisions....

Only you can decide that one, Steve. I have to say that my R didn't last five minutes when I got the money for an M6, once you've swapped to a bayonet mount you'll wonder how you could ever bear to change lenses. Leica users probably had conversations like this in 1954 🙂

I have to agree with clintock. After using my new R3A the only thing that I wish I had was a second body to put an even wider lens on. Oh well we can just wait for he R4A to have a nice 40mm & 28mm combo.

But the r3a has no framelines for 35, and the r none for 21..
The 50 frame on the r3a is pure joy.. I thought I'd use 35 on my r3a looking beyond the 40 framelines like i do with a 28 on my cl, but it's not so good..
I don't even like to use a 40 on the r3a.. it's just too much angular displacement for my eye to take in at once.

Now if you had an r2a on the way.. ..

I'll just use the whole viewfinder to substitute for lines with the 35 and see how that works for me. I wanted to try the 1:1 viewfinder of the R3A, so I'm giving up framelines for the 35.

Maybe I'll get a R4A for the wides and keep the R3A for 50mm and above...as long as I'm pretending I can spend all I want.

It most certainly is!

I do find myself missing indoor shots because I'm loaded with 400 iso...and those 800 ISO Porta shots I took in the museum last weekend looked pretty good.....

hmm L with aux for the 21, the 35 on the R, the 50 on the r3a, so you'll need a T and finder for the 75 sounds like to me...

Yea! That way I can just weld the lenses on the bodies and never worry about changing them!

I need a bigger camera bag! 😀

I guess it depends on what lenses you have. If they are screw mounts then I'd definitely keep the R, for different film. It would also make a great backup should you run into a problem.

I do tend to use my R as part of a light weight kit with 35 Ultron and the CV 75 when I'm out on the (motor) bike. Sell it and you may regret it.

I guess the safest thing to do is to keep it for awhile. I'll either find a use for it, or it'll be like money burning a hole in my pocket and I'll sell.

Ok, now that I've decided I want to keep it, I've also decided that I should sell it.
I can't keep money tied up in this hobby that could be used to pay bills. I have a couple of Fed-2s that are newly CLA'd and in great shape. There's my back-up bodies for whatever convenience that offers.

So, as the R3A is waiting at the post office for pick-up, the R goes in the classifieds section shortly. I think I even have a picture ready.

Thanks for the good discussion guys...but the pragmatist needs to win this one.
