R3A overlapping exposures??

Examining the way the way the camera works, it has to be a result of either:

-accidental pressing of the rewind button
-film slipping off of the gear drive

There is no slip clutch on the gear drive. There is on the takeup reel, but the geardrive would be powerful enough to tear film if need be.

The gears on the camera area little rounded shaped, so JLW suggested the back pressure plate might not be providing enough tension to hold the film tight against the gears. I can see how this would happen since the gears are not sharp, like on some cameras.

Either way, I shot 3 rolls of film tonight. I'll develop them and see what happened 😉

Thanks for posting this. I am about to get an R2A shortly, so it's good to know this before I buy it rather than discovering this after the fact.

I shot about 72 frames tonight and there were no overlapping shots. I was not really paying attention to how I was using the camera, and was occasionally advancing the frames quickly.

I think I have it licked.

As mentioned above:

If you advance the film on and shut the back, use the rewind knob to tighten the film and you should be fine. I haven't had any overlapping shots on any of the last 5 rolls of film.
