OK, this weekend played with an R3a... I want one now. But, in leu of recent news of the R4a... now I'm at a stand still. Frame line city on the R4a, and bigger finder for us myopic eyeglass guys.... not sure, has anyone yet encountered this indecision?:bang:

The short fall of the Bessa cameras in my eyes is all around that otherwise wonderfully bright RF/VF. The EBL is too short to focus fast lenses in its natural state, the 2 cameras, but by increasing the magnification to 1:1 in the 3 series you loose framelines wider than 40 and for glasses wearers perhaps 50. The cameras are wonderful, the VF superb. I don't like the compromises.

That said, I am pretty confident that I will be putting out for an R4a. I will use 35mm and wider lenses only with it. I am also often tempted by the R2a and R3a, but neither in my eyes is a good solution to use a 35mm and fast 50 kit. That is a tough place to be for a RF camera.

Look at it this way: the R3a is a great 50mm body. The R4a is an ideal 24 or 28mm second body.

Cheers,

Roland.

It would be nice to have an R2A but I'll probably wait for the R4A. Though I have not put down a deposit I already have enough cash set aside to purchase one. The R4A would be a nice complement my CV 15-25-35 LTM lens lineup (guess I'll need some generic adapters, too).

As Ivan noted, the R4 presents a compelling option for glasses-wearing shooters who favor wides.

I'm with rover and Roland. The R4a is a unique camera with parallax correction for super wide angles. It will not be necessary to use separate viewfinders with 21, 25 or 28mm lenses. I think most people who buy it will only use it for very wide lenses, and that will be my use. I have a Leica 24mm and Hexanon-M 28mm that will love this camera. The 28mm frameline is on its own in the VF... 🙂

How much do you like/need a built-in meter? I agree with Rover and, with 20/20 hindsight, I should have bought a user Leica M2 or M4. They're ideal for fast 50s and good for 35s and 90s. The R4 is a great compliment to them because of its strength for short lenses but I wish I could magically turn my R2a into an M2...
