now into the second weekend of MP ownership nd the second weekend of rainy weather, so I am reduced to reading the manual. 2 questions which I couldn't figure out

1. when is off really off. there is the B/off mark on the shutter speed dial, however it seems that the LED's only come on when I partially press the shutter button. So do I ever really need to set it to B/off ? will the battery drain if it is cocked/uncocked but not in B/off position

2. there are gold contacts in the film chamber, supposedly these read the ISO, is this correct, what about the dial on the back of the camera, which truly sets the ISO ?

Thanks - the Sun has appeared, briefly, I have to go finish a roll.

Marc,

When I bought mine I was told that B is really off - if your lights come on at B, it might mean there is a fault?

Mine has no DX contacts, it's all down to the dial - I have 3 gold contacts but they only communicate with the dial (I'm guessing it is actually a potentiometer.

Marc has a good question. Especially when you push film speeds. I change the ASA dial on the back of the MP. What role does the gold contacts in the film chamber really serve?

happy shooting Marc

Those gold contacts connect the ASA dial on the back door to the metering electronics in the body. You'll see three dimples next to the pressure plate on the back door that make contact with the gold contacts on the body when the door is closed.
Thanks Andy, you make that sound so logical !
cheers
