Ralph Gibson

xaxa, exactly my thoughts frank! :D I would not mind some of his models :D though I need to find out which film did he use for those smoothie tonalities :)

sunsworth : My intention was not to be super cool artist, I was just curious if I could get the same feeling, besides that I am sure someone else has done it before ralph :D

Art isn't just about copying something, it's about having the vision and imagination to do it first.
I guess that rules out landscapes. And flowers. And nudes...

Oh, heck, I'll go and copy reality anyways, as I see it.

In the interview, he said he didn't crop, and if he did, he wouldn't admit it. Perhaps the latter is the case here.

Nice work, Nachkebia.

Rool,
It is one thing to say that you do not like a photographers work or that it is not to your taste, but that it sucks? When you say something like this you should make sure that you are in a lofty place yourself....

Well, I'm not a pro and don't realy market myself like this guy.
I still think is photos kinda suck IN MY OPINION as I specified in my previous post.

Note: English is a second language for me so I might not really understand the intensity of the meaning of "suck". Sorry if it is too strong then.

iyo, why do his photos suck? and what's wrong with his marketing?

OK, I just wanted to say that I don't like his photos, nothing more. If you like them, good for you and I have no problem with that.
And nothing wrong with his marketing, it's rather efficient!

That's ok, but what is it about his photos that you don't like?

They leave me cold. I feel like what he is shooting has been done a thousand times. I just don't feel anything looking at them.

Just noticed that Ralph Gibson is running a workshop in Vancouver September 14-18. How about we all chip in and send FrankS along to represent us?

A majority of Gibson's work is amazing. Of course not all phtogs make great images all the time. I don't care for one portfolio which I saw as pornographic. I love nudes when tastefully done, but there is a line. Gibson's latest book "Refractions" actually has some sage advise on equipment, technique and asthetic. Also, if anyone here has the Leica Lens catalog be aware that Gibson made all the images of the Leica factory.
