Just received my Kiev 5 from Oleg last weekend. I bought this Kiev 5 from grizzly33bear and had Zhanna sent it directly to Oleg for CLA. Zhanna and Oleg are great people. However, I think due to the thin padding for the camera, the rangefinder is knocked out of vertical alignment during transit. Anyone has any experience adjusting the rangefinder on Kiev 5? How difficult is this operation? I rather not send the camera all the way to Oleg if I can manage the adjustment.

Jason.

I received mine from Grizzly33bear two weeks ago. It's in great shape and especially the VF/RF seem to work very well.....unfortunately no frame for the J 9!

I think that there actually is a connection between collecting/acquiring/ammassing behaviour and postings on forums like that one.....I already searched for Zorki 3's on the Bay other examples would be the Zorki 3 and the J 3....

PS.: to rxmd 220 young bears have gone missing in Austria, thought to be shot illegally by hunters....so arming bears becomes an option in Austria!

Btw Phillip, in your .sig, do you actually mean Аркадий Шайхет? Curious since I've never heard of Тайшет before.

Hi Yevgeni,

yes, I do, I'll correct it in a minute. It got in there when someone here on the forum asked how to put Cyrillic in the signature and I tried it out. At that time I had just started reading the book by Margarita Tupitsyn on Soviet photography and was starting to get interested, but hadn't gotten in enough yet to remember the names correctly. 🙂

Apparently it took more than a year or so before someone actually read my signature and noticed, including myself.

My current favourite photographer from that period is Max Penson. 🙂

Jason,

Not too difficult but need to disassembly the top, see the Kiev Survival Site: http://www3.telus.net/public/rpnchbck/cleaning and repairs.html

Kiev 5 has a different top from earlier models, because of its more sophisticated RF/VF. I wanted to remove the top cover of mine in hopes of fixing the non-functioning film counter, but was never able to figure out how to get it off!

Is there any information out there that's more Kiev 5-specific? If not, as the interest in these cameras seems to be growing, maybe some RFFer should start a fan site! (I no longer have my Kiev 5 but would still like to know more about what's inside it...)

Interest in Kiev-5s appears to be on the rise indeed. I just talked to my dealer here because a friend in Germany is interested in one. Here in Tashkent Kiev-5s in very good condition sell for approximately 150 to 200 USD at present. For Tashkent standards that's a very high price. At present there's a lot of Japanese here buying very specific pieces of old Soviet gear.
