rangefinder adjustment

I have found info on how to do basic adjustments to the R-D1 / Bessa rangefinder by removing the hot shoe. This doesn't help me.

My frame lines and focus patch are cock-eyed in a clockwise direction enough to be annoying. I am in Europe and have no hope of finding a repair shop.

Anyone removed the top plate and attempted this adjustment themselves?

Don't try it yourself except you are skilled in adjusting a rangefinder (and disassembling and reassembling a camera in general). It's quite tricky, and you have much more possibilities to do it wrong than do it well.

If it's under warranty send it to Epson. As far as I know it's Epson France doing it for all european countries.

Otherwise you might ask Stephen Gandy of cameraquest.com. He's in USA but a shipment to there is not much costier than inside Europe, and he might do it for a better price than the few europeans who know that camera.

My own experience is that the vertical alignment can be upset by even a modest knock to the camera, so doing the vertical alignment yourself is a skill worth cultivating.

As for misaligned viewfinder frames, IO agree with Didier.

Framelines are a different issue (there are threads on this also) and the camera will almost certainly need to go back for repair.

I have done a adjustment myself to Bessa R2. First use a thick plastic sheet , cut it to > then use it to lift the hotshoe plat. Then you gain acess to the screws. Then follow the thread about mention. There is a trick to be careful. when a rangefinder is perfectly done, the superimpose image shouldn't be shift when you move youreyes left or right. If it moves , you might to re adjust it.

Your issue is caused by the small glass patch to the left of the light sensor. There’s a barrel with a small pin sized hole. This needs twisting back to adjust the skew. The rd1 will have to be taken apart to do this. The adjustment through the shoe is only the vertical and infinity adjustment, not much help to you.

Do you happen to know if this adustment is for the framelines, the RF patch, or both?

My frames are fine, but my RF patch is tilted, which makes the vertical alignment change slightly with the focus distance. I'd love to get that fixed 🙁

thanks for that... from what you wrote, I guess I'll have to wait until I put it in for a service. It's out of warrenty, so I'll hang on 'til something needs doing!
