Rangefinder Front Focusing After Travel

I brought my RD-1x with me on my trip in my carry-on luggage.

I went to take it out shooting and noticed that it's not focusing precisely. -front focusing-

(Sidenote: This was an issue with the rangefinder before that I had recalibrated. The front focus was fixed.)

Is it possible that the rangefinder mechanism (prism) may have been knocked out of alignment during travel? It's a lot of money to have it recalibrated again :(

My Yashica Electro 35 GSN has no focus problems after examining photographs from it. They were traveling in the same bag. Is the RD-1x's rangefinder really that sensitive to shock? I mean, it's not like I threw the bag around, but I was definitely running around with it.

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution without having to send it back for repair? :(

It is a fairly common complaint, although my own experience is not that it goes easily out of alignment. Perhaps tolerances vary between units.

It is anyway easy to do rangefinder adjustment on R-D1. I fine-tuned mine as it wasn't perfect when I received the camera years ago. I see you have the 'x' version. It is unclear to me whether you can make all the adjustments as easily on these later models. Some say you can't, others say you can.

Please follow the link to instructions (thanks to Rich and Stephen).

I cold say exactly the same thing.
R-D1 as this complaint, but after adjustement on my both R-D1, they for the moment stay perfectly adjusted.

I hope it's the same adjustment for RD1x, but you need to remove the hot shoe to see ... or not the 2 screws to adjust: vertical alignement and focus.

It's not really easy as screw are not directly under the shoe, very sensitive, and not progressive...
but it takes around 10-15mm to adjust correctly, as you need to make test every time with a large aperture lense that you use often. (some lense can have a small focus shift).

did you try it with different lenses to confirm?

You can find informations for adjustment on Cameraquest site
