Rangefinder Photography Books

Has anyone writtten or published a book or books about rangefinder photography. I am more interested in learning about this type of photography versus books with just images. Any advice?

I suppose you'd need a definition of rangefinder photography. I've seen some Leica books dedicated to images taken with a Leica (hence rangefinder), and you could find some books of images by photographers who use RF, but rangefinder photography? Certainly, RF camera's lend themselves to certain types of photography (available and low light, street, etc.), but not exclusively.

I believe Roger and Frances Hicks have one directly on rangefinder photography and equipment.

Andre Kertesz and Ruth Orkin may not even have used RF cameras, but their pictures will teach you a great deal about lighting and composition.

'Rangefinder' by Roger Hicks and Frances Schultz covers cameras of many formats and lenses along with technique. A very useful reference book.

'Leica M Advanced Photo School' by Guenter Osterloh is obviously biased towards Leicas but nevertheless has very useful chapters on general photography, in particular 35mm rangefinder photography technique.

Buy "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson, best I have seen on using manual exposure. And isn't that what RF's are all about?

I found the Hicks and Schultz book rather disappointing. It lacked depth. It was not more than a summary of the available brands and types of rf cameras but no real discussion about the pros and cons of rf photography. I kept the book because I couldn't return it but I found it an utter waste of money (and I bought the book when I was just starting out in rf photography).

"The Leica, The Leicaflex and their Systems" by Theo M. Scheerer, published by Fountain Press London is a good one if you can find a copy.
